Let me back track a little bit. I am 5’11″ tall and 221 pounds. Realistically I am 40 pounds over weight….maybe more. After I tell people this fact many of them insist there is no way I am fat. I assure you every morning when I look in the mirror I am looking at a fat man. When I put on my cycling kit there is no doubt I am fat. I like a pretty colored well designed sausage!
So with all of this in mind I started to look for help. I started to look for answers. I wished I had written down all the sites, book and articles I have read to get me to this place but I did not. I am trying to go back in my history on my Mac and get out the important things to post later. There is so much information out there, many of them selling snake oil like products. Like Beachbody’s Shakology. That has to be the biggest waste of money ever.
So confused and thinking I did more reading….
I did really start getting heavy into the Vegan idea when I found the site, 30 Bananas a Day. This was the point where I started to read more about how a raw vegan lived and ate. I always thought as a vegan I would have nothing to eat, and I was right. As a meat eater and a carb eater when looking at a vegan diet I saw nothing of value. Then I found the site and realized I could eat fruit all day long and thrive. I love fruit! I can’t tell you how much I love fruit!. We are all told on high protein diets to watch how much fruit you eat since it’s high in sugar. Sugar makes you fat right?
I always thought to myself that this sounded odd but never doubted it. People with large brains had put lots of thought into sugar and other stuff and they had to be right….wrong. Nothing could be more wrong. Nature and evolution gave the earth fruit. I would guess fruit was around long before humans were. So as we developed we probably ate fruit, and lots of it. Fruit and eatable plants would have been everywhere. As soon as we learned to farm we started growing grains like rice and other veggies. ( I need to learn more about this but stick with me here.) And as we learned to hunt we had meat but really the amount of energy it took to get meat was really and huge risk vs. reward scenario. While man was hunting I wonder what he did for food? Fruit, Veg., plants, and Nuts!
So then I started to look into the 80/10/10 diet. It’s not a diet at all, it is more like a guide to how you should be eating all the time.
This is when the “haters” show up. The people who tell you that you can’t eat vegan and do things every day or you can’t eat vegan forever! The truth is you can and you will enjoy it. I have done a few days of nothing but fruit and ridden my bike just fine. The trick is eating until you are full and not stopping until you are comfortable with the calories and know it will hold you over.
Yesterday I had half a watermelon for breakfast, the other half over the rest of the day, and whole cantelope, some grapes, and a few bananas. At dinner I had some soy (which I am not going to eat anymore.) and sweet potato. It seemed like more food than one should eat but on the scale this morning and I was down 2 pounds. The only problem I have now is that people on 80/10/10 are eating twice what I am eating and doing great.
I really don’t understand how people could think eating all raw, all fruits and veggies can possibly be bad for you?
I also wonder how you think cheese, mayo, butter, and really meat can be good for you? I really am the last person on the face of the earth I would have thought would disregard meat, cheese and bacon, but it’s all pointless. I love the taste but can’t ignore the fact that it is dead rotting meat and the only thing saving it is a fridge and chemicals to help it stay looking good until you cook it up.
So a few things I want you to think about as I write this.
- When someone says I am thinking about or going to become a vegan or vegetarian don’t automatically think they are nuts unless you have done it and know it is not going to work.
- Don’t be a hater.
- Educate yourself on what eating should really look like. Diets are for people who are going to deny themselves something. Eating is for people who want to live.
- You can eat fruit all day long and not gain 10 pounds a week. You Can!
